Melting point
"I feel as if people become frozen when they're isolated from society, kind of like how a bridge ices over more quickly than a road." (Notes archive; July 30, 2017)
It is connection that brings warmth. The same is true for a drop of water heating up more quickly than a body of water. There is strength in numbers, and too much solitude can reduce resilience. We become more moderate beings when balanced out by those around us. Alone, we are everything at once. There is a single nail for us to lay upon rather than a bed of nails to distribute the weight. It's okay to need people. We were made to be a part of something larger than ourselves. It isn't just body heat others bring us. It is the irreplaceable presence of another soul, the emotional connection between humans, that thaws us. We feel alive again. Does your body ever melt when someone hugs you? Have you ever burst into tears when someone asked you how you were? Was something just funny enough to make you laugh? That is our 32 degrees Fahrenheit. That is our melting point.
