Too emotional to be political
I was recently searching career ideas for someone with my Myers-Briggs personality type (ENFP). The list gave me some suggestions for jobs that people with my personality type typically do well in, as well as careers to stay away from. “Judge” was listed as a job ENFPs aren’t generally good at. I had to laugh at this because it makes complete sense. I always see both, or rather all, sides to a situation. That’s why it’s so hard for me to vote in a two-party system. With that being said, there are definitely political issues I’m passionate about because they pertain to human rights. I tend to separate church from state, because I don’t identify with one religion either, but I do integrate ethics into politics. Where do those come from though? How can I be ethical if I don’t believe any religion is the one true path to follow? I wish I knew the answer to this. I think it’s good to question it, though. Is any truth objective, or is every issue subjective based on personal experience, knowledge of the matter, et cetera? I would love to read your thoughts in the comments. I know, at the very least, that there is a lot of emotion involved in politics, whether we acknowledge it or not. It is deeply personal and dynamic. I think a lot of matters in life are more colorful than the black and white pictures we paint of them. I understand not every presidential candidate, or even party platform, will 100% be in line with someone’s opinions, beliefs and values. However, I’m all over the board, as opposed to being mostly in one category. It was difficult to make a decision based on the fact that I’m fiscally conservative, socially liberal, spiritually green and philosophically libertarian. I wasn’t happy with my options, either, nor the fact that there were only two to choose from. It’s hard for me to pick one menu item when I go to a restaurant, much less be personally responsible for who becomes president. I know my vote looks like an ant on a mountain, but it counts, and that’s why I elected the person who most closely resembles my idea of a leader. But I don’t know how to define myself as an American citizen, nor am I proud to be one. I’m not red or blue. I’m more of a pastel rainbow.
